Dr. Edward Snyder was born and raised in Salem, Virginia. He attended Hampden-Sydney College and graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry. In 1982, he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) from the Medical College of Virginia Dental School. Dr. Snyder practiced as a family dentist and taught children’s dentistry at the Dental School for three years. He attended The Eastman School of Dentistry/University of Rochester for two years where he was awarded a certificate of Orthodontics.
Dr. Snyder opened his practice in 1987 and has been practicing as an Orthodontist ever since. In 1995, Dr. Snyder earned his Board Certification from the American Board of Orthodontists, a distinction only 25% of orthodontists ever attain. He is also a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, American College of Dentists and Pierre Fauchard Academy. His professional memberships include the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, Virginia Dental Association, Virginia Association of Orthodontists, Patrick Henry Dental Society and the Roanoke Valley Orthodontic Study Club.
He is currently the Southern Association of Orthodontists (SAO) representative on the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) Council on Membership, Ethics and Judicial Concerns. He is also active in many community organizations:
- He is one of the founders of the Piedmont Dental Clinic in uptown Martinsville and is currently vice-president of the Clinic’s Foundation.
- He was appointed to the State Board of Dentistry by Governor Warner and has served as vice-president.
- He is active in the Boy Scouts of America and attained the rank of Eagle Scout as a teenager.
Dr. Snyder is married to Kim and they have three children. Outside of the office, he enjoys spending time outside and has fun playing golf when he gets a chance.

Providing Critical Dental Care
When the local mills and factories closed and unemployment reached 20% in Martinsville and Henry County, thousands of people went without dental care. Local dentists knew a plan had to be developed to provide dental care for their community. Dr. Snyder is one of the founders of the Piedmont Dental Clinic, which has served more than 40,000 patients in Martinsville and Henry County since it opened in 2006.
Dr. Snyder is also currently vice-president of the Clinic’s Foundation, which is an educational and training resource for the community.
